If There Is No Struggle, There Is No Progress. Those Who Profess To Favor Freedom, And Yet Depreciate Agitation, Are Men Who Want Crops Without Plowing Up The Ground. They Want Rain Without Thunder And Lightning. They Want The Ocean Without The Awful Roar Of Its Many Waters. This Struggle May Be A Moral One; Or It May Be A Physical One; Or It May Be Both Moral And Physical; But It Must Be A Struggle.

In This Denial Of The Right To Participate In Government, Not Merely The Degradation Of Woman And The Perpetuation Of A Great Injustice Happens, But The Maiming And Repudiation Of One-half Of The Moral And Intellectual Power Of The Government Of The World.

Slaves Sing Most When They Are Most Unhappy. The Songs Of The Slave Represent The Sorrows Of His Heart; And He Is Relieved By Them, Only As An Aching Heart Is Relieved By Its Tears.

The Thought Of Only Being A Creature Of The Present And The Past Was Troubling. I Longed For A Future Too, With Hope In It. The Desire To Be Free, Awakened My Determination To Act, To Think, And To Speak.
