This Is What The Painter, The Poet, The Speculative Philosopher, And The Natural Scientists Do, Each In His Own Fashion. Each Makes This Cosmos And Its Construction The Pivot Of His Emotional Life, In Order To Find In This Way Peace And Security Which He Can Not Find In The Narrow Whirlpool Of Personal Experience.

Qualities I Sought In A Scientific Theory Were Naturalness, Inner Perfection And Logical Simplicity From An Aesthetic Approach.

But The Personality That Finally Emerges Is Largely Formed By The Environment In Which A Man Happens To Find Himself During His Development, By The Structure Of The Society In Which He Grows Up, By The Tradition Of That Society, And By Its Appraisal Of Particular Types Of Behavior.

There Is Nothing Divine About Morality; It Is A Purely Human Affair. If People Are Good Only Because They Fear Punishment, And Hope For Reward, Then We Are A Sorry Lot Indeed. What The Individual Can Do Is To Give A Fine Example, And To Have The Courage To Uphold Ethical Values .. In A Society Of Cynics.
