The Playwright, Along With Any Writer, Composer, Painter In This Society, Has Got To Have A Terribly Private View Of His Own Value, Of His Own Work. He's Got To Listen To His Own Voice Primarily. He's Got To Watch Out For Fads, For What Might Be Called The Critical Aesthetics.

It Is Not Enough To Hold The Line Against The Dark. It Is Your Responsibility To Lead Into The Light. People Don't Like The Light--it Reveals Too Much. But Hand In Hand With The Creative Artist, You Can Lead People Into The Wisdom That Is Known To All Other Animals: Simply, That It Is The Dark We Have To Fear.

Sometimes I Think The Experience Of A Play Is Finished For Me When I Finish Writing It. If It Weren't For The Need To Make A Living, I Don't Know Whether I'd Have The Plays Produced.
