The Mayor, Aldermen And Councilors Of The City Of Nauvoo, Il, Before Entering Upon The Duties Of Their Office, Shall Take And Subscribe An Oath Or Affirmation That They Will Support The Constitution Of The United States, And Of This State And That They Will Well And Truly Perform The Duties Of Their Offices To The Best Of Their Skill And Abilities.

We Think It Would Be Wise In You To Try To Git [sic] Influence By Offering To Print A Paper In Favor Of The Government As You Know We Are All Friends To The Constitution Yea True Friends To That Country For Which Our Fathers Bled.

The Lord Gave Us Power In Proportion To The Work To Be Done, And Strength According To The Race Set Before Us, And Grace And Help As Our Needs Required.
